Sam Maywood, M.D.
Pain Management
A Southern California resident since 1987, Dr. Sam Maywood is recognized as a leader in the study of anesthetics and the field of pain management. He was recently hand chosen as one of twenty physicians in the United States to begin performing the Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET) procedure, a cutting edge alternative to fusion surgery. Dr. Maywood also holds a position as Senior Instructor at Stanford University Medical School teaching this technique to other physicians. Additionally he is also a nationally-known instructor for techniques for implantation of spinal cord stimulators and narcotic pumps.
Dr. Maywood earned his medical doctorate from the UCC School of Medicine, and he completed his internship and residency at the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Prior to his term at COAST Surgery Center, Dr. Maywood served as the Director of Pain Management for the Continental Rehabilitation Hospital and two other prominent centers in San Diego.
Dr. Maywood is a member of the International Spinal Injection Society, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association, the International Neuromodulation Society, Pain Net ociety and the American Society for Pain Management. Dr. Maywood also
volunteers his time at the COAD Society for Surgical Care of Underprivileged
Youth with Facial Deformities.
Dr. Maywood and his wife, Dawn, have three children.
